Purple is one of the toughest colours to fire true in enamel. Creating it as an ombré finish, where one shade melts gradually into another, is even more demanding. It's why most enamel workshops simply don't attempt it.
We did, because we wanted to create something that felt worthy of the festive season. A piece as rare as the moments it would become part of.
A colour borrowed from dusk.
The colour we kept returning to wasn't found in a swatch book. It was found in the sky.
Every evening, just before night arrives, the horizon slips into a shade that's neither blue nor black. It lingers for only a few quiet moments before fading away.
In India, there's a word for that hour - Shyamal.
The word has long been used in poetry to describe the colour of dusk—deep, dark and impossible to define with a single shade.
Rare takes patience.
Every Cumin Co. Dutch oven begins the same way—with cast iron coated in 4 layers of enamel that fuse together under intense heat to create a surface that's built to last for decades.
Shyamal demanded something more.
Creating an ombré finish isn't simply about applying two colours. It takes careful layering, precise control over firing temperatures and years of expert craftsmanship to achieve a transition that feels natural instead of painted. Inside the kiln, the slightest variation in heat can influence the final glaze, making consistency one of the greatest challenges of all.
That's what makes Shyamal so rare. Not just the colour itself, but the craftsmanship required to bring it to life.

Our cookware is handcrafted, and enamel has a character of its own.
As every Dutch Oven passes through the kiln, the glaze responds ever so slightly differently to heat. One piece may carry deeper twilight tones, another a softer fade into violet. The transition shifts gently from pot to pot, making every ombré unique.
It's the same reason no two evenings ever paint the sky in exactly the same way. Every Shyamal belongs to the collection. Every Shyamal is one of a kind.

Dusk is when homes begin to glow with diyas. It's when families gather after a long day apart, conversations linger around the dinner table and celebrations quietly begin. Raksha Bandhan, too, has long regarded the time around dusk as especially auspicious - a moment that honours love, protection and togetherness.
